"Get Off My Lawn"

You can officially add me to Jeff Wells' growing chorus of Gran Torino fans.

This is good, solid, American filmmaking at its best. I wasn't expecting to be this...wowed by it. It's a lean, perfectly modulated right hook of a movie, never hitting a false note. I can't really say too much about it and I'll be reviewing it soon (it won't be opening around here for a while), but Eastwood has knocked it out of the park in a big way.

Powerful stuff.

I saw GRAN TORINO last night Matt, and I give it 4 of 5, as does my tough-to-please British colleague Allan Fish. It may miss out on the Top Ten, as like you I am having a very difficult time paring it down. I agree with you that last year was a greater year, but it is nonetheless tough to specify 10 films of this year's creme de la creme.

I really look forward to your Top Ten. If I had to make a prediction as to what you say is "emerging as the favorite" I would venture to say SNY, but I am not quite sure.
