The Little Matchgirl
Yet another Oscar nominated short film, this time from the animated category.
The Little Matchgirl is a beautifully crafted (albeit brief at around six minutes long) retelling of the classic tale of the little homeless girl who sells matches to get by. I won't spoil it for you if you're not familiar with the story...and yes it's a little cloying, but just try not to feel your eyes burn during this.
It features some of the most gorgeous hand-drawn animation since the Disney musicals of the 1990s...which is a rare thing in today's CG world.
It's definitely worth checking out.
