If I Had a Ballot

Ryan Adams has posted a great new poll at Awards Daily that allows readers to nominate eligible films using the same preferential system used by the Academy to choose the Oscar nominees.

The actual tabulation is pretty complicated, but the construct is relatively simple - all you have to do is nominate 5 people or films in each category, listed in order of preference.

Here is my ballot:

BEST PICTURE
  1. Synecdoche, New York
  2. Gran Torino
  3. WALL-E
  4. Slumdog Millionaire
  5. Waltz with Bashir

BEST DIRECTOR
  1. Charlie Kaufman, Synecdoche, New York
  2. Clint Eastwood, Gran Torino
  3. Danny Boyle, Slumdog Millionaire
  4. Christopher Nolan, The Dark Knight
  5. Darren Aronofsky, The Wrestler

BEST ACTOR
  1. Sean Penn, Milk
  2. Mickey Rourke, The Wrestler
  3. Michael Fassbender, Hunger
  4. Frank Langella, Frost/Nixon
  5. Benecio Del Toro, Che

BEST ACTRESS
  1. Kate Winslet, Revolutionary Road
  2. Kristen Scott Thomas, I've Loved You So Long
  3. Meryl Streep, Doubt
  4. Michelle Williams, Wendy and Lucy
  5. Melissa Leo, Frozen River

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR
  1. Heath Ledger, The Dark Knight
  2. Michael Shannon, Revolutionary Road
  3. Philip Seymour Hoffman, Doubt
  4. Dev Patel, Slumdog Millionaire
  5. David Kross, The Reader

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS
  1. Viola Davis, Doubt
  2. Kate Winslet, The Reader
  3. Taraji P. Henson, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
  4. Penelope Cruz, Vicky Cristina Barcelona
  5. Amy Adams, Doubt

My own Front Row Awards will look different than that, as many of my contenders aren't eligible for Oscar consideration for one reason or another. But head on over to Awards Daily and make your voice heard. The nomination results will be announced soon.
