"Cottingley Lane"

As some of you may know, I'm something of an amateur filmmaker myself. I don't just critique films, I try to make them whenever possible.

My newest one is called Cottingley Lane, a kind of tribute to W.B. Yeats' "The Stolen Child." It's probably the most difficult thing I've ever had to make, but it's also probably my favorite, as it is the most personal and dearest to my heart. It was born out of ideas that have been swirling around in my head for several years now, and while the original idea proved impossible to do, it gave birth to something completely new and creatively satisfying for me in a whole different way.

It still has its temp score, culled from various film soundtracks, so I'm sure some of you will recognize a lot of the music. Hopefully one day I will find a composer to breathe new life into it.

Until then, I hope you enjoy it. Feedback is always appreciated.

I absolutely loved it Matthew!!!

You have that dark, melancholy underpinning, which informs the music (excellent by the way)the darkened interiors, and the attention to objects (clocks and religious statues particularly) I'm assuming that was your mother at the beginning and your brother as a lead. Your sensibilities are right for this kind of material, and I applaud the use of the Yeats' poem, which I also adore.

Congratulations.

Some really interesting stuff here. Really shows how much you can do with limited resources.

Just out of curiosity, is there any 'trademark' type violation with basing a short film off of a literary work? It seems that like must be a great source of inspiration.

Anyways, good work here. I'm currently working on a short myself, but something more in the realm of 5-10 minutes.

Thank you both for watching and for your feedback!

Danny, since I didn't actually base the film on "The Stolen Child" there shouldn't be any kind of conflict. It is my favorite poem, and incidentally the source of my favorite song. So it means a lot to me.

Be sure to post your short when you are finished with it.
